"I’m an outfit repeater, but you're an outfit rememberer."

Hello there!
If you grew up in the early 2000s like me, you will know the iconic Lizzy McGuire quote:
“Maybe I’m an outfit repeater, but you're an outfit rememberer,”
after being called out for wearing the same dress twice.
I rewatched the movie recently and was reminded just how relevant that moment still feels today. Fast fashion tells us we need a new outfit every day, but the truth is, loving and repeating your favourite pieces can be just as stylish and far more sustainable. We need to love what we already have and wear it proudly- even if someone notices we wore it last week.
Outfit Repeating is an Art
Repeating outfits isn’t lazy; it’s intentional. When you build a wardrobe around pieces that feel good, you’re not chasing trends; you’re cultivating confidence. Every time you reach for a favourite jumper, a pair of tailored trousers, or your go-to skirt, you’re making a style choice that’s comfortable, confident, and completely yours.
At Caitlin McCracken Knitwear, our philosophy is simple: fewer, better pieces, made to last. Crafted from 100% natural Donegal wool, our knits are timeless and durable- perfect for outfit repeating without ever feeling boring.
Why Outfit Repeating Feels So Good
Re-wearing clothes is definitely an act of sustainable living. Eco-activist Livia Firth famously suggested that we aim to wear our pieces at least 30 times, while others have taken it even further, proposing 30 years. This benchmark of longevity in fashion shows the importance of re-wearing outfits for the benefit of the planet.
Personally, I love repeating my everyday outfits, and I have been known to wear the same formal dress to multiple events, such as my graduation, two weddings, and even my university formal. I love that dress, and every time I wear it again, I create more lovely memories that make it even more special.
Tips for Repeating Outfits With Style
Repeating outfits doesn’t have to be predictable or boring. Follow these tips to keep your favourites feeling fresh week after week:
- Mix and layer: Add a scarf, belt, or coat to create a fresh look from a favourite piece. One jumper, multiple looks.
- Play with accessories: Shoes, jewellery, or bags can completely change an outfit.
- Embrace your favourites: Your best-loved knits are meant to be worn again and again; they get better with time.
So here’s to outfit repeating, unapologetically. To wear your favourites, cherishing the pieces that make you feel like you, and leaving the worry about “what people think” behind.
Be like Lizzy McGuire: a loud and proud outfit repeater!
Happy woolgathering,
Caitlin
